Project Safety Officer

About the role

Join Dematic, a global leader in intelligent automation, as a Project Safety Officer on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. Based onsite in Deer Park, Melbourne, you will drive safety excellence across a large‑scale automated warehousing project for a global FMCG client.

Key responsibilities

• Provide WHSE advisory support and champion a proactive safety culture on site.
• Conduct site inspections, safety observations, audits, risk assessments and investigations.
• Facilitate inductions, toolbox talks, pre‑start meetings and support Safe Work Method Statements, procedures and permits.
• Maintain safety reporting systems, hazard and risk registers, and support subcontractor onboarding.
• Liaise with builders, principal contractors, client representatives and participate in safety committees.

Required profile

• Degree or Diploma in Health & Safety, WHS, OHS or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ site‑based safety experience in construction, industrial or manufacturing projects.
• Experience on large‑scale, multi‑contractor projects with concurrent work fronts.
• White Card and Australian driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Conducting WHS audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Developing and reviewing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and permits.
• Risk assessment and hazard identification.
• Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety practices.
