Production Software Engineer - Senior/Staff/Principal

About the role

Optiver, a global market maker and liquidity provider, is looking for a senior, staff or principal level engineer to join its Sydney team. The Production Software Engineering team owns the infrastructure, systems, tooling and workflows that let engineers deploy, operate and observe a large network of highly specialised, performance-sensitive trading systems. It focuses on scaling up change, increasing robustness and reducing friction, so that engineers can innovate faster and safer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop solutions using a mix of third-party and in-house technologies, owning each change end-to-end: understanding the business problem, design, implementation, testing, deployment and monitoring.
• Work closely with the team to support delivery where appropriate, such as requirements, architecture or implementation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in software engineering, particularly designing and delivering systems at scale.
• Deep knowledge of software systems, operating environments and how distributed applications run in production.
• A strong improvement mindset, able to simplify complex systems and reduce operational friction.

Required skills

• Beneficial but not required: proficiency in Python.
• Beneficial but not required: familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, configuration management tools and modern web frameworks.
• Beneficial but not required: experience in trading or other high-performance, low-latency environments.
