Mining Engineer – Dragline Operations

About the role

The Dragline Mining Engineer provides dedicated technical support to dragline operations, focusing on short‑term planning, design and execution to ensure safe, efficient and reliable performance. Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the role contributes to daily planning and integrates dragline activities with broader site production objectives at Capcoal Surface Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short‑term dragline schedules and designs (up to ~6 months).
• Support daily production planning and dragline sequencing.
• Provide technical advice to ensure safe and efficient dragline execution.
• Assist with spoil placement strategies, strip sequencing and design optimisation.
• Collaborate with operations and planning teams to align plans with execution.
• Contribute to mine plans that support future growth and production targets.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within dragline operations.
• Maintain compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of a couple of years’ experience in a mining engineering role.
• Dragline experience or strong exposure to large‑scale open‑cut operations (preferred).
• Experience in short‑term mine planning, scheduling or design.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with operational teams.
• Practical, execution‑focused engineering approach.
• Commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement.
