Media and Communication Officer

About the role

The Australian Submarine Agency is seeking an APS 6 Internal Communications Officer to strengthen agency‑wide messaging and support staff understanding of the AUKUS Optimal Pathway submarine programme. You will create clear, timely, and consistent internal communication products and work closely with senior leaders and subject‑matter experts.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and produce internal communication items such as staff updates, intranet content, newsletters, Q&As and key messages.
• Support communication plans for agency priorities and organisational change.
• Maintain and update intranet content to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
• Coordinate messaging across groups to keep communication aligned and consistent.
• Assist with town halls and internal events, preparing talking points and content.
• Provide rapid internal communication responses during emerging issues.
• Develop templates, guidance and practical tools to uplift internal communication capability.

Required profile

• Experience in internal communications within a government or large organisation.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into accessible staff‑ready content.
• Strong collaboration skills with senior leaders, subject‑matter experts and cross‑functional teams.
