Mechanical Reliability Engineer

About the role

BlueScope is seeking a Mechanical Reliability Engineer for its Bulk Berth Maintenance team at the Port Kembla manufacturing facility. The role focuses on improving the reliability and performance of bulk materials handling assets to support plant availability and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and optimise maintenance strategies for critical plant assets.
• Analyse equipment performance and reliability data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead equipment improvement, refurbishment and reliability projects from concept through implementation.
• Provide technical guidance for complex equipment failures and operational issues.
• Lead defect elimination and root cause analysis (RCA) activities.
• Coach and mentor maintenance personnel to foster a reliability‑focused culture.
• Support shutdowns, down days and major maintenance activities safely and efficiently.

Required profile

• Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering qualification.
• Experience in heavy‑industry, large‑scale manufacturing.
• Knowledge of reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM), defect elimination and RCA methodologies.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and problem‑solving skills.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement.
