Maintenance Technician

About the role

SGS Australia, a provider of testing, inspection and certification services, is looking for a Maintenance Technician to join its team in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The role keeps equipment running efficiently, safely and reliably in a laboratory environment. It is a permanent full-time position, not a FIFO, and the successful candidate must be based in Kalgoorlie.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake breakdown and scheduled repairs to electrical and mechanical equipment
• Read technical blueprints, wiring diagrams and specifications to determine operating sequences and methods
• Measure and lay out installation reference points for electrical equipment
• Select cables, cut and connect wire to terminals and connectors while following safety protocols
• Use test instruments to trace and diagnose faults and repair them
• Repair and replace faulty wiring and defective parts, and install and adjust electric and mechanical parts of equipment such as crushers, mills and extraction equipment
• Position and install switchboards, connect electrical systems to power and test circuit continuity
• Troubleshoot problems with laboratory staff to achieve long-term solutions
• Analyse equipment for improvements and carry out preventative maintenance
• Improve the reliability of automated equipment and document work to boost efficiency
• Support remote sites at times and maintain the EDB after scheduled or unscheduled maintenance

Required profile

• Good understanding of electrical equipment and some knowledge of mechanical equipment
• Experience of electrical cable installation and requirements
• Past experience of using root cause analysis and solving complex problems
• Ability to repair any piece of equipment routinely
• Reliable, self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team
