Legal Counsel – Child Abuse & Stolen Generation Support (Perth)

About the role

Knowmore Legal Service is seeking a qualified lawyer to join its Perth team and provide free, trauma‑informed legal assistance to victim‑survivors of childhood sexual abuse and the Stolen Generations. The role involves delivering compassionate, culturally safe advice and representation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality legal advice, information and representation to clients via telephone and face‑to‑face consultations.
• Manage a significant caseload, ensuring service standards, timelines and accurate data recording.
• Make referrals and warm referrals to appropriate service providers.
• Participate in outreach activities, including visits to remote communities, to raise awareness of Knowmore’s services.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to address clients’ legal and ancillary needs.

Required profile

• Current practising certificate to practice law in Western Australia.
• Experience or solid understanding of administrative and/or civil law.
• Demonstrated ability to provide legal advice to vulnerable individuals using a trauma‑informed approach.
• Cultural competency in working with Aboriginal people or a proven ability to acquire such skills quickly.
• Resilience, self‑care practices and a strong commitment to social justice.

Required skills

• Sound computer skills within a legal practice environment.
• Familiarity with CRM systems (desirable).
