HPC Systems Engineer

About the role

Jump Trading Group's global High Performance Computing team is looking for an HPC Systems Engineer in its Sydney office. The computing environments are large and complex, integrating compute, scheduling, networks and large-scale data storage to support data pipelines and quantitative research. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly skilled in Linux environments and has a strong software development background.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain and support high performance compute and storage systems
• Implement and support performance monitoring and fault monitoring systems
• Monitor systems and storage performance, including network components
• Build tooling to compile, package, install and upgrade software and OS components at scale
• Write code and testing infrastructure across new and existing codebases in multiple languages
• Develop and improve systems and user documentation
• Take part in large maintenance operations, including evenings and weekends
• Work on global infrastructure projects and collaborate with researchers to optimise HPC usage
• Manage relationships with outside vendors, travelling domestically and internationally
• Follow cybersecurity and IT policies, using only approved hardware and software

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in HPC, including parallel filesystems (Lustre, GPFS), batch systems (Slurm, Grid Engine) and high-performance network interconnects is a plus but not required
• 5+ years of Linux systems administration
• Extensive experience with distributed systems, profiling and debugging, and root cause analysis
• Reliable and predictable availability
