Cadet Drafter – Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC, part of the Surbana Jurong Group, is looking for a Cadet Drafter to join its Rail & Metro team in Sydney. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience on large‑scale rail infrastructure projects across New South Wales, working alongside senior engineers and drafters.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing schematic and production drawings under supervision.
• Perform general office duties and support senior drafters with task analysis.
• Produce construction‑level documentation and ensure compliance with print and issuing procedures.
• Manage vault data and follow data‑management processes.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree program.
• Willingness to learn civil infrastructure and CAD technologies.
• Ability to interpret instructions and work in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Full working rights in Australia.

Required skills

• Proficiency or willingness to learn Autodesk suite of products.
• Basic CAD drafting skills.
