Team Leader - Bridges and Structures

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Team Leader to head its Bridges & Structures discipline in Canberra. You will guide a multidisciplinary team delivering high‑profile transport infrastructure projects across Australia and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide structural design input for bridges, retaining walls and other transport structures.
• Contribute to project management and technical reviews to ensure quality, schedule and performance.
• Lead, mentor and resource the design team, fostering professional development and retention.
• Drive business development and client relationship activities to grow the team’s portfolio.
• Support the group business plan and implement the team’s strategic components.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (Structural Engineering or related).
• Minimum 10 years of commercial structural design experience, primarily in bridge design within the NSW/Australian transport market.
• Proven ability to deliver projects on time, within budget and to client specifications.
• Extensive project management experience covering administrative, commercial and technical aspects.
• Experience delivering engineering projects valued over $1 million, including road, highway and rail/metro projects.
