Senior Designer – Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC is seeking a Senior Designer to join its Perth team and lead the design of major roads and highways projects across Western Australia and nationally. You will shape design strategy, champion digital engineering practices, and mentor junior designers while delivering high‑quality, innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the development and delivery of design solutions for complex transport infrastructure projects.
• Provide technical leadership across the design function and own key project outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and clients to ensure alignment with project goals.
• Define and implement best‑practice digital engineering and design delivery processes.
• Support the growth and capability of the design team through mentorship and knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of experience delivering roads and highways design in a consulting environment.
• Proven track record of delivering high‑quality, efficient, and commercially successful outcomes.
• Established reputation within the transport infrastructure sector.
