Senior C++ Software Engineer – Edge Systems

About the role

Shield AI is looking for a senior C++ software engineer to lead the Edge Systems team in Melbourne. You will build the software foundation for autonomous platforms that operate in demanding real‑world environments, working closely with hardware, AI and autonomy engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve the technical direction for edge compute, imaging, sensor integration and mission systems across multiple products.
• Design, develop, test and maintain production‑grade C++ applications for Linux‑based edge platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson and ARM64 devices.
• Integrate RGB, NIR and thermal cameras, GPS, IMU and other sensors using OS APIs, middleware and vendor SDKs.
• Optimise software for latency, throughput, power and thermal performance on constrained hardware.
• Lead resolution of complex, cross‑team technical challenges and mentor senior engineers.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or equivalent industry experience.
• Extensive experience developing modern C++ software for Linux and deploying to edge compute platforms.
• Strong fundamentals in concurrency, memory management, algorithms, testing and version control.
• Proven ability to diagnose and debug complex issues spanning software, hardware and networking.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
