Product Design Engineer – Innovative Medical Devices

About the role

You will join a multidisciplinary team developing innovative products for tightly regulated environments. Working closely with quality, hardware and software teams, you will contribute across the full product development lifecycle, from concept to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical research and interpret relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
• Translate clinical needs and user insights into clear design inputs and engineering requirements.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions, especially for miniaturised, flexible or steerable systems.
• Create and iterate detailed 3D CAD product designs from concept through to production‑ready definition.
• Design and execute prototype builds, verification tests and validation activities.
• Drive design for manufacturability, working with suppliers to optimise tooling and production processes.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including electronics, software and industrial design.
• Liaise with clients, clinical stakeholders and suppliers to ensure technical feasibility.
• Produce complete production‑ready documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications and technical files.

Required profile

• Hands‑on, highly detail‑oriented designer/engineer with a passion for both form and function.
• Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative consultancy environment.
• Proactive mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for design outcomes.
• Australian citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid working visa.
• Relevant qualification such as a Bachelor of Industrial Design, Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronic, Biomedical) or Certificate IV in Industrial/Product Design.
• 5+ years of product design experience, including design of complex assemblies with tight tolerances and moving interfaces.
