Modelling and Simulation Lead – Mission Autonomy

About the role

Working in our Hivemind Solutions team you will lead the Modelling and Simulation capability for our Australian based Mission Autonomy programs. You will be responsible for developing and integrating the simulation and test environments which our autonomy engineers use to develop, test and demonstrate Mission Autonomy solutions for uncrewed aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evolve distributed, real‑time simulation systems for autonomy verification across virtual, constructive and live environments.
• Architect and implement high‑performance C++ software for modelling, simulation and integration workflows.
• Develop, optimise and deploy real‑time mission execution software, including multi‑agent and system‑of‑systems scenarios.
• Integrate defence simulation frameworks such as AFSIM or NGTS to meet customer expectations.
• Leverage Docker, Kubernetes or similar container technologies for scalable, repeatable simulation deployments.
• Lead engineering teams of 5+ contributors, coordinating software, test, autonomy, perception and program stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate simulation with autonomy algorithms, hardware interfaces and test pipelines.
• Champion CI/CD, test‑driven development and modern design patterns to continuously improve the simulation ecosystem.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Extensive professional experience in software engineering and systems integration.
• Strong experience with modern C++ and Python.
• Proven ability to lead teams delivering complex engineering projects.
• Experience with real‑time, distributed simulation or HWIL/SWIL environments.
• Hands‑on experience with containerisation (Docker) and Linux development.
• Ability to obtain an Australian NV1 security clearance.
