Legal Counsel

About the role

BaptistCare is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its national Legal, Risk & Governance team in Sydney. You will work closely with the General Counsel, providing strategic legal advice that aligns with the organisation’s mission‑driven values.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑house legal support across the organisation.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of agreements.
• Interpret statutory and regulatory requirements and advise on compliance.
• Support mergers and acquisitions, manage claims and disputes, and respond to regulatory actions.
• Maintain and update policies, procedures and governance documentation.
• Perform company secretarial duties, board management and related governance tasks.

Required profile

• Law degree and current practising certificate.
• 5+ years’ experience in human services, aged care, retirement living, or planning/construction/property sectors.
• Strong communication, negotiation, attention to detail and time‑management skills.
• Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality and alignment with the organisation’s values.
• Additional qualifications in business or human services and experience with board procedures are highly regarded.
