About the role
The Investigations Manager will lead the Statewide Investigations directorate, providing strategic and operational direction to ensure investigations are conducted with the highest standards of quality, timeliness, efficiency and integrity.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational guidance to investigation teams in line with OIR procedures and performance standards.
- Advise the Director of Statewide Investigations, the Work Health and Safety Prosecutor and other senior stakeholders on contemporary and emerging investigation and enforcement matters.
- Represent WHSQ and give evidence before Industrial Magistrates, Courts, Tribunals or Coroners on workplace health and safety matters.
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry leaders and other stakeholders to facilitate inter‑agency cooperation.
- Mentor, coach and train inspectors and investigators, and lead complex or contentious investigations.
- Ensure compliance with OIR policies on HR management, injury prevention, WHS, equal employment opportunity and a discrimination‑free workplace.
- Promote health, safety and wellbeing of the team and ensure awareness of relevant policies.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in investigations, enforcement or workplace health and safety within a government or public‑sector environment.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex, high‑risk investigations.
- Strong understanding of industrial relations, WHS legislation and prosecution processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills, with experience presenting evidence in legal settings.
- Commitment to ethical conduct and the Queensland Public Service Code of Conduct.
