Finance Operations Accountant (Reporting to Co-Founder/CFO)

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious accountant with 2‑5 years of experience to build and own the finance function at Skipper, a fast‑growing purpose‑led start‑up. Reporting directly to the Co‑Founder who acts as CFO, you will be the sole finance professional during a period of rapid expansion, handling everything from day‑to‑day bookkeeping to system design, reporting and cross‑border tax liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily bookkeeping, bank reconciliations and cash‑flow monitoring across multiple sales channels.
• Develop, maintain and improve financial systems and processes using modern technology and AI tools.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal stakeholders.
• Liaise with external tax accountants in Australia and the United States to ensure compliance.
• Support commercial teams with financial analysis and insights to drive growth.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a high‑growth environment.
• Self‑starter with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Comfortable communicating finance information to non‑financial colleagues.

Required skills

• Bookkeeping and general ledger management.
• Financial reporting and analysis.
• Experience with cloud‑based accounting software.
• Understanding of Australian and US tax compliance requirements.
