Finance Expert – Remote Contract Role

About the role

Mercor is seeking a Finance Expert to create and evaluate high‑level economics and finance assessment items. This fully remote, contract position involves designing original questions that probe deep conceptual understanding for graduate‑level audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Author original economics and finance problems that require conceptual reasoning rather than rote recall.
• Ensure each question is clear, self‑contained, and includes all necessary data.
• Classify difficulty as Medium, Hard, or Expert based on target academic level.
• Provide one correct answer and nine plausible distractors that challenge expert solvers.
• Write step‑by‑step chain‑of‑thought solutions in markdown, with concise intermediate steps.
• Attach 1–5 academic references from peer‑reviewed journals or university repositories for each item.
• Flag and justify any clarity, completeness, precision, or solvability issues during verification.

Required profile

• PhD or doctoral candidacy in Economics, Finance, or a closely related discipline (Master’s acceptable for exceptional depth).
• Strong command of graduate‑level economic theory, quantitative methods, and financial modeling.
• Excellent written English with the ability to convey complex ideas succinctly.
• Experience in academic research; CFA, CPA, or industry experience is a plus.
