Engineer – Irrigation Water Supply Infrastructure

About the role

SMEC, a leading global engineering consultancy, is looking for an Engineer to join its Melbourne team focusing on irrigation, water supply and integrated water management projects. You will work across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and hydraulic modelling to detailed design and construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in designing irrigation infrastructure such as channels, pipelines and pump stations.
• Support drainage investigations and design work.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling, feasibility studies and detailed design tasks.
• Provide construction phase support, including site inspections.
• Perform water‑balance, demand and system optimisation analyses.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on integrated water projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• Interest or experience in irrigation and water‑supply systems.
• Strong understanding of hydrology and hydraulics.
• Early to mid‑career professional eager to develop technical capability.
