Assistant Accountant

About the role

Racing and Wagering Western Australia is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support both the Financial Reporting Team and the Finance Transactional Services Team. The role involves end‑to‑end transactional accounting operations and financial reporting responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage balance‑sheet reconciliations, sub‑ledgers and month‑end reporting.
• Ensure compliance with the Purchase Card Policy and maintain transactional controls.
• Prepare and reconcile withholding tax declarations at year‑end.
• Administer Point of Consumption tax lodgments.
• Support the Wagering Team with domestic and international product fee reconciliations.
• Review and approve daily transactional pool workflow items.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Handle end‑to‑end Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.
• Coordinate payment allocations, process daily bank statements, and run payment batches.
• Process EFT/e‑payments for both domestic and international transactions.
• Maintain accurate debtor records, follow up overdue accounts and resolve reconciliation items.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Experience in a transactional finance team (AR/AP).
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and GST compliance (ATO).
• Experience with complex general‑ledger reconciliations.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, treasury instructions and accounting practices.
