Mechanical Engineer – Mining Operations

About the role

Karara Mining Limited is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its on‑site engineering maintenance team. The role supports milling, filtration, crushing and overall operational optimisation at the Karara magnetite processing plant. Work is on an 8‑days‑on / 6‑days‑off FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues on operational equipment.
• Carry out mechanical design and project activities ensuring compliance with Australian standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to the maintenance team.
• Oversee team deliverables to meet engineering and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors and external partners to address production and equipment challenges.
• Perform routine inspections to proactively detect potential issues.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ mining experience in mechanical engineering within a processing plant.
• Recognised degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• WA "C" Class manual driver’s licence.
• Proven ability to apply engineering principles, statistical data analysis and process improvement.
• Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and 5 Whys methodologies.
• Computer literacy with CMMS (preferably SAP) and MS Office suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and a National Police Clearance.
• Legal right to work permanently in Australia.
