Associate Mechanical Design Engineer – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join Alcon’s instrument development team in Mulgrave on a 12‑month contract. The role supports the full product lifecycle, from concept through prototype build, verification and testing, helping deliver innovative eye‑care devices.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and refine CAD models and technical drawings for subsystems, ensuring compliance with internal standards.
• Assemble partial builds, mock‑ups and prototype instruments, supporting mechanical integration and functional testing.
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers and other gauges, and analyse the data for verification reports.
• Investigate test anomalies, conduct root‑cause analysis and assist in designing follow‑up tests.
• Design and fabricate simple mechanical or electromechanical test fixtures using CAD and 3D‑printing technologies.
• Carry out design calculations to predict performance and optimise designs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in CAD‑based design, prototyping and testing.
• Right to live and work in Australia (no visa sponsorship).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
