Senior Accountant – Energy Retail Finance (Sydney)

About the role

We are seeking a CA/CPA‑qualified Senior Accountant to join our Sydney‑based finance team within a leading Australian energy retailer. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be embedded in the operational rhythm of the business, handling month‑end, regulatory and energy‑market reporting while supporting wholesale settlements and green‑certificate reconciliations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end and year‑end close processes and produce monthly management accounts.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations, investigate variances and support budgeting, forecasting and statutory financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with AER, AEMO and other regulatory reporting requirements, including BAS lodgement.
• Support wholesale market settlements, AEMO prudential reconciliations and coordinate bank guarantee preparation.
• Review PPA and green‑certificate settlements (STC, LGC, ESC) and assist with audit preparation and external auditor requests.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification with a degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 3‑5 years of experience in management accounting, treasury or finance operations.
• Experience in energy, utilities or other regulated industries is advantageous.
• Strong Excel and financial‑modelling capability.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and communicate clearly in a collaborative environment.
