About the role
We are looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to join our Melbourne team on a full‑time permanent basis. You will be responsible for managing and supporting a complex IT infrastructure that underpins critical transport industry operations.
Key responsibilities
- Act as Level 2 escalation point for infrastructure troubleshooting, diagnostics and remediation.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert for security hardening, vulnerability management, baselining cycles and commercial software upgrades.
- Manage and maintain servers, virtual machines, hypervisors, storage systems, networks and supporting software across multiple locations.
- Configure and maintain IT hardware infrastructure, ensuring alignment with cybersecurity requirements, patching schedules and certificate management.
- Define, maintain and update system manuals, configuration baselines and operational procedures.
- Report on system performance, infrastructure status and security updates for operational management review.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware or software failures, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors.
- Participate in planning, scoping and implementation of new systems or operational transitions.
- Manage support renewals, licences, certificates and third‑party vendor engagements.
- Provide occasional after‑hours support and participate in a rotating 24/7 on‑call roster.
Required profile
- Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration or technical operations.
- Hands‑on experience with Windows Server environments and virtualisation platforms such as VMware.
- Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN networking, firewalls, VLANs, routing and security concepts.
- Experience with backup, recovery and monitoring solutions.
- Understanding of security fundamentals, vulnerability management, patching and certificate processes.
- Familiarity with OT environments and edge devices.
- Experience in high‑availability or mission‑critical settings (desired).
- ITIL Foundation or relevant vendor certifications (preferred).
- Ability to work independently in a live operational environment and willingness to join a 24/7 rotational roster.
