Staff Software Engineer – Web Applications (React)

About the role

CommSec is modernising its web platform and needs a Staff Software Engineer with deep React expertise to deliver intuitive, scalable customer experiences. You will work closely with product, design and engineering teams to build end‑to‑end solutions that support millions of investors each year.

Key responsibilities

• Drive hands‑on development, contribute to architecture decisions and mentor engineers across the team.
• Shape modern web platforms, improve engineering standards and solve complex, large‑scale challenges.
• Collaborate with product, design and business stakeholders to deliver high‑quality technical solutions.

Required profile

• Proven deep expertise in React development, UI architecture and performance optimisation.
• Experience leading front‑end technical decisions, defining reusable patterns and establishing standards for large‑scale web applications.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, API contracts and full‑stack ownership across the software lifecycle.

Required skills

• React, TypeScript (essential)
• Micro‑frontends, Module Federation, component‑based design patterns
• REST APIs, OpenAPI, code generation tools such as Orval
• Testing frameworks: Vitest, Playwright
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, TeamCity
• Observability: OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk/Observe
• Back‑end (bonus): C# / .NET
