Software Engineer – 4‑month contract

About the role

Join Leidos Australia’s engineering team to design, build and operate enterprise monitoring and observability solutions using the Elastic Stack. You will work alongside senior engineers and architects on a 4‑month contract.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain monitoring configurations and integrations that collect logs, metrics, traces and events from enterprise systems.
• Build and enhance Kibana dashboards, visualisations, alerts and reports to support proactive monitoring and performance analysis.
• Create scripts and automation to streamline monitoring deployment, configuration management and recurring operational activities.
• Use observability data to support troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement of monitoring coverage.

Required profile

• Demonstrated software engineering capability with experience in scripting and system integration.
• Ability to analyse system behaviour, investigate technical issues and communicate findings clearly.
• Experience collaborating with software engineers, platform teams, database administrators and operational stakeholders.

Required skills

• Python, PowerShell or JavaScript scripting.
• Understanding of operating systems, networking, virtual machines, containers or cloud services.
• Familiarity with relational or non‑relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Exposure to Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Beats or other observability platforms.
• Experience with Linux or Windows administration.
• Knowledge of Azure, AWS or Google Cloud and container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
• Understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, Terraform, Ansible, Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Splunk or AppDynamics.
