Senior Tax Systems Engineer

About the role

Canva is looking for a Senior Tax Systems Engineer to own and evolve its global tax technology ecosystem. You will work across multiple tax platforms and finance systems, driving automation and ensuring compliance for a fast‑growing SaaS business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture, implementation and integration of tax solutions such as Avalara, Vertex, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE and Fonoa.
• Design and maintain scalable integrations with NetSuite, Zuora, Snowflake and other critical finance applications.
• Develop automation and AI‑enabled workflows to reduce manual effort and improve tax compliance.
• Implement and manage SOX/ITGC controls, audit readiness and governance for all tax systems.
• Collaborate with Tax, Accounting, Engineering, Technical Program Managers and external vendors to define the long‑term tax systems roadmap.
• Own sandbox strategy, release orchestration, regression testing and change management across quarterly releases.
• Create documentation, runbooks and operational processes for Finance teams.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience operating enterprise tax systems in a global SaaS or high‑growth technology environment.
• Strong understanding of global indirect tax obligations (VAT/GST, US sales tax, digital services taxes, marketplace facilitator rules, e‑invoicing).
• Proven experience with SOX/ITGC controls, audit support and change governance.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into clear documentation for finance users.
