Senior Systems Engineer – Research & Innovation

About the role

Saab Australia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead engineering activities across defence research and development programmes, prototypes and concept demonstrators. You will translate innovative concepts into robust, scalable, mission‑ready solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering from requirements through integration, verification and validation for R&D projects.
• Engage stakeholders to define requirements, align solutions with capability objectives and support product evolution.
• Coordinate technical governance, configuration management and design reviews.
• Oversee installation, testing and sustainment activities while providing technical leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience applying Systems Engineering principles across multiple lifecycle stages in defence, aerospace or complex technology environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and technical documentation skills.
• Australian citizenship with eligibility for Defence Security Clearance (NV1) and ITAR access.

Required skills

• Systems Engineering lifecycle experience, especially in R&D, innovation programmes or prototypes.
• Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), systems architecture development and digital engineering practices.
