Senior Systems Administrator

About the role

Industrial Light & Magic is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to support its innovative filmmaking infrastructure. The role focuses on Linux and storage systems, troubleshooting, and driving automation across on‑premises, remote data centre, and cloud environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
• Provision, configure, and maintain organisation‑wide storage, backup, and render servers.
• Monitor physical and logical systems, collect health data, and produce reports.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies via a ticketing system, supporting over 1,000 users.
• Document processes and share knowledge with local and global ILM teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum two years of systems administration experience.
• Self‑starter with a DevOps mindset, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Physical ability to lift items up to 50 lb.

Required skills

• Linux desktop and server administration.
• Local and networked storage systems.
• Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, link aggregation, routing).
• Common network services (DNS, DHCP, SMTP, SMB, NFS).
• Modern hardware, virtualization, and cloud computing.
• Experience with storage clusters (NetApp, Isilon, Avere) – a plus.
• Familiarity with render farms or high‑performance distributed computing – a plus.
• DevOps tools and frameworks (Kubernetes, Docker, Ansible, VMware, KVM, Git, Perforce, Jira) – a plus.
• Scripting and programming languages – a plus.
