Senior Power Systems Engineer

About the role

ACCIONA Energía, a 100% renewable energy company, is looking for an experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to help develop, connect, commission and operate large-scale renewable energy projects across Australia. The role is based in Melbourne or Brisbane and covers utility-scale wind, solar and battery energy storage projects connected to the National Electricity Market. Reporting to the Connections Manager, you will lead technical work from feasibility studies and grid connection applications through to commissioning, model validation and operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support grid connection activities for utility-scale wind, solar and battery energy storage projects across the full project lifecycle.
• Deliver power system studies, technical assessments and grid connection documentation to support connection and compliance outcomes.
• Work with AEMO, network service providers, consultants and project teams to navigate connection requirements and technical approvals.
• Provide engineering leadership during commissioning, testing, model validation and energisation.
• Support operational assets by resolving power system performance issues and ensuring ongoing compliance with grid obligations.
• Contribute technical expertise to project development, bids and strategic initiatives.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in power systems engineering within renewable generation, transmission or distribution.
• Eligible for membership of Engineers Australia.
• Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites when required.
• Current RPEQ and RPEV member status or eligibility, and willingness to travel to project sites.

Required skills

• Power system modelling tools such as PSSE, PSCAD and/or PowerFactory.
• Experience with AEMO grid connection processes and interaction with DNSPs/TNSPs.
• Knowledge of inverter-based resources including wind, solar and battery energy storage systems.
• Strong technical report writing and stakeholder engagement skills.
