Senior Observability Engineer

About the role

As an Observability Lead Engineer within Enterprise Service Operations, you will manage ANZ’s enterprise observability platforms and provide expert guidance to improve monitoring visibility across critical applications and services. You will drive the adoption of modern observability practices, including OpenTelemetry, and help build a scalable, secure, and cost‑efficient telemetry ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technology and architecture leadership for the Enterprise Observability team, driving best practices and guiding adoption of tools such as Dynatrace, New Relic and OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate with technology teams to uplift monitoring maturity, optimise observability coverage and support operational resilience.
• Design and develop best‑in‑class monitoring systems, dashboards, anomaly detection and alerting using APM platforms.
• Lead sprint activities to deploy observability tools and services that deliver real‑time visibility across domains and the Command Centre.
• Design synthetic monitoring journeys and integrate cloud telemetry to enhance automation and coverage.
• Utilise scripting and automation to streamline telemetry ingestion and platform extensions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading observability initiatives within large, complex enterprises.
• Strong understanding of APM concepts and modern telemetry standards (MELT).
• Ability to work with product owners to translate features into epics and manage backlog priorities.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross‑functional teams.
