About the role
The Department of Education is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to join its Internal Audit team in Brisbane. This temporary full‑time position will involve planning and executing audits across the department’s schools and corporate functions, helping to strengthen governance, risk management and control processes.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and conduct compliance and operational audits across all areas of the department, including schools.
- Assess the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal controls against legislation, policies and IIA standards.
- Utilise data‑driven auditing techniques, risk and control matrices, and visualisation tools to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, root‑cause analysis and practical recommendations.
- Provide advice and guidance to school principals and departmental managers during and after audits.
Required profile
- Proven experience in internal auditing, preferably in a public sector or education environment.
- Strong analytical abilities and a track record of delivering high‑quality audit outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with senior managers and audit stakeholders.

- Risk and control matrix (RACM) development
- Application of IIA auditing standards
