Research Nurse – Neonatal Clinical Trials

About the role

Mercy Health offers a part-time funded Master of Nursing (Research) position for a candidate who wants to lead clinical studies and gain skills in neonatal nursing research. The position is offered jointly through Mercy Perinatal, La Trobe University and the Neonatal Nursing Leadership Team at the Mercy Hospital for Women. It is a full-time equivalent appointment made up of fractional EFT allocations across research nursing, clinical nursing and student activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support the running of a randomised controlled trial aimed at improving intubation safety in preterm and term infants.
• The trial tests whether nasal prong oxygen (low flow) during laryngoscopy increases first intubation success without dangerous desaturation or bradycardia.
• Additional studies can be built around the trial depending on the candidate's interests, such as implementation science, human factors or approaches to improve equitable participation in trials.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Current neonatal nursing experience.
• Bachelor's (Honours) degree in a relevant discipline completed within the last ten years with a weighted average mark of 70 (H2A) or above; applications may be made on equity or alternative entry grounds if this is not met.
• Police Record Check and Working with Children Check, and proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders.
