Project Manager – High Voltage Substation

About the role

Airswift is partnering with a major energy and infrastructure client to deliver one of Australia’s largest high‑voltage substation projects (220kV+). The role is based in Sydney and requires frequent site visits to lead end‑to‑end delivery of this nationally significant transmission asset.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full lifecycle of a 220kV+ HV substation, from detailed design through construction, commissioning and handover.
• Own programme, cost, quality and safety outcomes as the primary accountable party.
• Manage EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants and internal stakeholders across multiple workstreams.
• Oversee electrical scope including primary plant, protection & control, SCADA, secondary systems and grid interface.
• Provide governance for commercial management, variations, risk and change control.
• Ensure compliance with Australian standards, network operator requirements and WHS legislation.
• Conduct regular site inspections and progress reviews to align construction with design intent.
• Support commissioning, energisation planning and final asset handover documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
• 8+ years delivering large‑scale HV substation or transmission infrastructure projects (220kV+).
• Proven experience as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer on complex, high‑value electrical infrastructure.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience in contract administration and claims management.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to work between a Sydney office and field sites as required.
