Primary System Engineer - HV Substations

About the role

The Primary System Engineer is the technical guarantor of the performance of design works for high-voltage (HV) substations, covering committed design budget (man days), deadlines and quality in line with customer expectations, while promoting ease of installation, operation and maintenance. The role plans and oversees detailed design, delivers engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection, and coordinates documents made internally or through subcontracting.

Key responsibilities

• Design and integrate components for HV and MV AIS and GIS substations and power generation in compliance with international and Australian standards
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams on substation layout and design calculations, and develop design specifications supporting procurement
• Manage project strategy, risks and customer relationships, and manage engineering subcontractors for specific work packages
• Carry out site inspections and supervise design validation, manufacture and installation, and witness factory testing
• Take part in technical and program reviews, document technical data, and lead EHS initiatives including the Zero Deviation Plan

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in science or engineering, major in electrical engineering
• At least 4-5 years' experience in AC substation engineering, including design, calculation, HV equipment selection and supervision of site testing and commissioning
• Experience leading engineering activities is a plus
• Ability to travel onsite, expected around 20% depending on business needs

Required skills

• Knowledge of Australian and IEC standards for power systems and equipment
• Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills, able to coordinate several projects and lead small teams
