Media and Communications Lead

About the role

Moonee Valley City Council is looking for a proactive Media and Communications Lead to shape and deliver its media strategy. You will be the primary point of contact for media relations, storytelling and reputation management across the council’s services, programs and events.

Key responsibilities

• Manage proactive and reactive media relations, including pitching stories and handling enquiries.
• Develop and implement media strategies that align with council priorities.
• Produce media releases, statements, speeches and briefing materials for festivals, arts venues and council initiatives.
• Provide media advice to the Mayor, CEO and senior executives.
• Build and maintain relationships with journalists, media outlets and key stakeholders.
• Monitor coverage, analyse trends and identify opportunities to enhance reputation.
• Support advocacy campaigns, crisis communications and emergency planning.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in managing both proactive and reactive media opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver communications plans that support organisational goals.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across a large organisation.

• Full‑time permanent position (Band 6) with a salary starting at $100,577.59 per annum plus superannuation.
