Mechanical Engineer – Design & Manufacturing

About the role

Elephants Foot is looking for a practical Mechanical Engineer to join its Sydney engineering team. The role focuses on designing and supporting the manufacture of waste‑handling equipment, translating site requirements into detailed, manufacturable solutions. You will collaborate with design, production, installation and project teams to deliver accurate fabrication drawings.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare 3D models, assemblies and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks.
• Support shop drawing and project‑specific design requirements.
• Update designs based on site measurements, project constraints and production feedback.
• Produce clear manufacturing drawings for fabricated components and assemblies.
• Work closely with production, installation, estimating and project teams.
• Provide technical support during manufacturing and assembly.
• Review designs for manufacturability, practicality and accuracy.
• Assist with design improvements, standardisation and process improvement initiatives.
• Support product development and automation‑related projects as required.
• Coordinate with suppliers, fabricators and internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design, fabrication or manufacturing support.
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks.
• Experience preparing fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Hands‑on experience with sheet‑metal design and steel fabrication processes.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
• Legal right to work in Australia.
