MD/Director – M&A – Independent Corporate Advisory Firm – Sydney

About the role

Our client, an independent corporate advisory platform with over 25 years of experience in the Australian market, is seeking a commercially astute MD/Director to lead its M&A practice. The role offers high autonomy, direct client interaction and the opportunity to shape the firm’s growth trajectory.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a high‑performing advisory team with strong ASX board‑level connections.
• Own client management and drive deal execution across M&A, capital management and special situations.
• Develop and nurture inbound client pipelines while expanding the firm’s market presence.
• Manage and mentor Analyst and Associate staff, ensuring best‑in‑class work product.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on platform strategy and growth initiatives.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in investment banking, corporate advisory, transaction services or broader corporate finance.
• Proven track record across a range of transaction types, including M&A and capital‑related deals.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop junior teams.
• Strong commercial focus with excellent analytical and technical capability.
• Experience managing senior client relationships and driving business development.
• Comfort operating with high autonomy in an independent advisory environment.
