Material Planner

About the role

Austal is seeking a Material Planner to support major shipbuilding programmes at its Henderson shipyard. You will work closely with procurement, production and warehousing teams to ensure the right materials are available at the right time, keeping the build process on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain material plans aligned with production schedules.
• Monitor inventory levels, identify shortages and forecast upcoming demand.
• Coordinate with procurement to expedite critical items and track material status from order to delivery.
• Work with production teams to prioritise and sequence material requirements.
• Identify risks and implement solutions to prevent delays or disruptions.
• Maintain accurate data in ERP/MRP systems.

Required profile

• Experience in material planning, supply chain or logistics, preferably in shipbuilding, construction, manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Strong organisational and critical‑thinking abilities with high attention to detail.
• Effective communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Previous experience on Defence or large‑scale infrastructure projects is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MRP/ERP systems.
• Ability to interpret production schedules and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Inventory optimisation techniques.
• Demand planning expertise.
• APICS or equivalent supply‑chain certification.
