About the role
An established family‑owned veterinary hospital is seeking an experienced Lead Surgical Veterinarian to join its multidisciplinary team and take a leading role within its busy surgical department. The hospital, founded in 1984, is a purpose‑built 24‑hour facility providing comprehensive medical, surgical and emergency care.
Key responsibilities
- Perform a broad range of small‑animal surgical procedures.
- Manage complex surgical and hospitalised cases from diagnosis through to recovery.
- Interpret pathology, radiography, ultrasound and other diagnostic imaging.
- Develop comprehensive, evidence‑based treatment plans.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding diagnosis, treatment and patient care.
- Mentor veterinarians and veterinary nurses in surgical techniques, case management and best practice.
- Support the continued development and growth of the hospital's surgical department.
- Contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical environment focused on exceptional patient outcomes.
Required profile
- Approximately 3 years post‑graduate veterinary experience.
- Strong commitment to patient care and client service.
- Thrives in a team‑oriented environment with open communication.
- Enjoys working in a busy, modern, well‑resourced hospital.
- Dedicated to continuous learning and professional development.
- Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
Required skills
- Small‑animal surgery.
- Pathology interpretation.
- Radiography interpretation.
- Ultrasound interpretation.
