Laboratory Technician

About the role

ALS Environmental is seeking two Laboratory Technicians for its laboratory in Smithfield, NSW. The positions are permanent and full-time, one for the morning shift and one for the afternoon shift, with rosters that may run Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. The work involves sample extractions, equipment maintenance and QA/QC compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct sample extractions and tasks according to ALS Quality Work Instructions, ensuring QA/QC compliance
• Organise daily tasks efficiently and meet set timelines and standards
• Report anomalies in results or samples to the supervisor
• Maintain housekeeping, calibrate equipment and perform calculations for analyses
• Manage consumable stock and assist with additional duties
• Use calibrated equipment following ALS quality procedures
• Comply with ALS HSE policies, state OHS legislation and the safety manual, and report compliance issues

Required profile

• Tertiary education: a degree or diploma in science, preferably chemistry
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, high attention to detail and good chemical knowledge
• Ability to work autonomously or in a team, to plan and organise work, and judgement and problem-solving skills
• Positive attitude to safety requirements and appropriate aptitude on the allocated tests
• Able to stand and move around the lab and lift or carry up to 15 kg
• Citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or able to obtain a valid working visa
