Head of Department – SPARQ‑ed School Improvement (Temporary)

About the role

The SPARQ‑ed program is seeking a temporary Head of Department to lead its School Improvement Branch. This senior leader will shape curriculum delivery, drive innovative outreach, and ensure high‑quality learning outcomes for secondary students and teachers across Queensland.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the SPARQ‑ed vision by developing and overseeing innovative curriculum and teaching practices.
• Foster positive relationships with students, teachers, and external stakeholders.
• Use data and analytical tools to continuously improve program impact and align with the Department’s Education Strategy.
• Manage human, financial, and physical resources to achieve organisational goals.
• Coordinate flexible work arrangements, including occasional evenings and school‑holiday work, managed through time‑off‑in‑lieu.

Required profile

• Demonstrated teaching competence and experience in curriculum leadership, preferably as a Head of Department in Science/STEM.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and sustain productive relationships.
• Proven capacity to analyse data for program improvement and communicate outcomes.
• Effective resource management skills.
