Head of Data - Finance

About the role

Canva is looking for a senior leader to own the data science and analytics capability for its Finance function. Reporting to the Global Head of Data Science, you will partner with FP&A, Accounting, Tax and Investor Relations to provide the data foundation that the CFO and finance leadership rely on.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of data scientists and analytics engineers embedded in Finance, setting technical standards and priorities.
• Own the metric governance framework and single source of truth for top‑line performance metrics used in operational finance and investor reporting.
• Design and maintain data models, pipelines and metric definitions that power FP&A forecasting, planning and feeds into Anaplan and board‑level reporting.
• Collaborate with Accounting, Tax and Investor Relations to improve data quality and automate financial reporting.
• Drive the evolution of Finance’s data architecture, including modelling standards, layer design and orchestration patterns in DBT and Snowflake.
• Introduce AI and automation into Finance processes, ensuring the data foundation is ready for AI‑enabled solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading distributed data teams within a Finance function, preferably in a SOX‑compliant or public‑company environment.
• Strong systems thinking: ability to design end‑to‑end data flows, enforce governance and controls as core engineering work.
• Comfortable writing code or building models yourself while communicating insights to senior finance leaders.
• High technical standards combined with genuine curiosity about underlying business problems.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical teams and senior leadership.
