Group Manager Tax

About the role

Thiess is seeking a senior leader to shape and execute the Group’s tax strategy across multiple jurisdictions. You will guide a high‑performing tax team, provide trusted advice to the Board and senior executives, and ensure compliance with Australian and international tax obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Group Tax function, aligning culture with Thiess’ values.
• Design and implement a tax team strategy that supports overall business objectives.
• Drive continuous improvement and change initiatives in tax processes.
• Oversee global tax risk management and optimise the Group’s total tax position.
• Prepare high‑quality tax advice and position papers for senior management, the Board and shareholders.
• Manage the Tax Governance Policy, including Board‑level reporting and internal compliance reviews.
• Maintain effective relationships with revenue authorities worldwide and manage reputational risk.
• Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all direct and indirect tax obligations.
• Oversee tax effect accounting for the global Thiess Group.
• Act as the primary interface with the ATO, international tax authorities, auditors and external advisers.

Required profile

• Senior tax leader with deep technical expertise and strong commercial acumen.
• Proven ability to influence at executive and Board level in complex, global environments.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Commerce or Law, with CA, CPA or CTA accreditation.
• Significant experience in senior tax roles within large corporates or Big 4 firms.
• Australian and international tax experience; mining or similar industry background is highly regarded.
