Financial Controller – Private Equity‑Backed AI/Tech Firm

About the role

This hands‑on Financial Controller position supports a private‑equity‑backed AI and technology business. You will modernise reporting frameworks, embed rigorous controls and partner with senior leaders to drive financial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting under AASB/IFRS.
• Prepare and present monthly management accounts, board packs and variance analysis with clear commentary.
• Assist in annual budgeting and forecasting, building bottom‑up models with department heads.
• Manage cash flow, treasury functions and working capital to maintain liquidity.
• Drive continuous improvement of financial systems, processes and internal controls.
• Partner with operational and commercial teams to provide insightful analysis and identify margin‑enhancement opportunities.
• Oversee statutory and tax compliance (BAS, FBT, income tax) and coordinate external audits.
• Lead, mentor and develop a small finance team, fostering accountability.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Experience in a start‑up or scale‑up environment, preferably with Big 4 or mid‑tier training.
• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Strong command of financial reporting under AASB/IFRS.
• Hands‑on mentality and excellent communication skills for board and investor presentations.
