Design Engineer – Protection & Control

About the role

Enemix is seeking an experienced Design Engineer specialising in Protection & Control to join a leading EPC client in Sydney. You will work on high‑voltage and renewable infrastructure projects, delivering innovative secondary system designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concept and detailed designs for secondary systems, including drafting and studies.
• Lead design reviews for Protection & Control, automation and communication systems.
• Participate in safety‑focused reviews such as HAZID, HAZCON and HAZOP.
• Respond to RFIs, attend FAT, SCAT and bench testing, and support commissioning activities.
• Contribute to tender submissions, feasibility studies and technical specifications.
• Engage with vendors, conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory permits.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience on HV and renewable projects in Australia, preferably within an NSP or contractor environment.
• Full working rights in Australia and willingness to travel for site visits.
• Proven ability to deliver complex Protection & Control engineering projects.

Required skills

• Protection & Control system design – relay configuration, load flow, protection studies, insulation coordination, earthing, lightning, metering, QoSM.
• Automation and SCADA design – functional design specifications, signal lists, mapping, HMI.
• Communication systems – fiber, network architecture, remote access, IT, VPN, protocols (DNP3, IEC 60870‑5).
• Auxiliary systems – load calculations, UPS, cabling, lighting, security.
• Advanced AutoCAD proficiency.
• Commissioning and testing of secondary systems, fault studies and protection coordination.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for critical infrastructure.
