Design Engineer – Product & UI

About the role

As a Design Engineer at See Me Please you will own the look, feel, and functionality of a suite of enterprise‑grade products that drive accessibility decisions for major Australian institutions. You will blend design thinking with hands‑on coding to ship interfaces that are used daily by customers and a diverse community of testers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain four live product surfaces: insights portal, testing platform, admin site, and marketing site.
• Drive the evolution of the internal design system (@smp/ui) across a monorepo architecture.
• Make judgement calls with incomplete information, iterating quickly to deliver visible, high‑impact features.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and academic partners to ensure accessibility is built into every interaction.
• Ship production‑ready code without hand‑offs, maintaining a high standard of visual and functional quality.

Required profile

• Self‑starter who thrives in a flat, fast‑moving startup environment.
• Strong ownership mindset; comfortable making decisions with limited data.
• Passion for accessibility and universal usability as core product principles.
• Ability to work across design and engineering disciplines, regardless of previous title.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Figma for UI design.
• Frontend development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript or similar).
• Experience building or contributing to design systems.
