Consultant General Surgeon – Fixed-Term (12 months)

About the role

This 12‑month fixed‑term contract offers a Consultant General Surgeon the chance to work across Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital, delivering high‑quality surgical care to a diverse population that includes remote and Indigenous communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive general surgical services to inpatients and ambulatory patients.
• Manage patient flow through ward rounds, outpatient clinics and a 24/7 on‑call roster, including emergency surgery.
• Offer specialist advice to clinicians in remote and isolated centres throughout the Northern Territory.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care pathways, clinical governance, audit and continuous professional development.
• Teach, mentor and supervise junior medical staff.

Required profile

• Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent.
• Eligibility for Specialist Registration with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated experience as a Consultant General Surgeon.
• Commitment to rural, regional and Indigenous health.
• International Medical Graduates are encouraged to apply.
