Casual Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Environmental Division of ALS runs a modern commercial laboratory in Brisbane (Stafford) equipped with analytical technology. It is seeking several experienced Laboratory Technicians who can deliver quality results on time and maintain strong client relationships. Candidates may have recently completed a Science degree or TAFE laboratory skills and wish to use their practical laboratory experience. The work is fast-paced and requires speed with accuracy.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse soil, water and sediment samples, including weighing, digesting, titrating or solvent extraction
• Carry out procedures in line with ALS Quality Work Instructions
• Organise tasks to maximise daily efficiency and complete them within the supervisor's timeframe and the relevant analysis standards
• Flag anomalies in results and in sample type or behaviour

Required profile

• Genuine interest in the science industry
• TAFE or university qualification
• Previous commercial laboratory experience preferred
• Attention to detail, organisation and time management
• Dedication to good laboratory practice, quality and health and safety
• Willingness to work public holidays and weekend shifts and to be cross-trained across laboratory sections
• Experience in hospitality with multiple tasks is desirable

Required skills

• Advantageous: coding or programming (VBA, Python, R, SQL or similar)
• Advantageous: interest in computer building, circuitry, automation, Excel macros, scripting or 3D printing
• Advantageous: exposure to or interest in robotics, AI, process automation or digital optimisation
