Business Development Specialist – Infrastructure & Energy

About the role

The Business Development Specialist will lead origination and project development activities from our Melbourne office, focusing on infrastructure projects such as power generation, decarbonisation, and digital infrastructure. Reporting to the General Manager of the Infrastructure & Energy Division, you will work closely with Mitsui’s head office in Tokyo and regional headquarters in Singapore to drive growth.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop new business opportunities by engaging with industry participants, regulators and advisors.
• Pitch opportunities to internal stakeholders, including the General Manager, and maintain relationships with developers, partners, investors and advisors.
• Conduct preliminary commercial assessments, high‑level financial analysis, and evaluate key risks and value drivers.
• Support project development and transaction processes, including due diligence coordination and preparation of internal approval documents.
• Collaborate with internal teams and other divisions to uncover synergies and cross‑divisional opportunities.
• Liaise with Mitsui’s head office in Tokyo and regional headquarters in Singapore to ensure strategic alignment.
• Assist with decarbonisation projects such as hydrogen, ammonia, ACCUs and biofuels.
• Perform market research, generate sector insights and translate them into actionable business development recommendations.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in business, international studies or a related discipline.
• Proven experience in project development or a similar role within the infrastructure or energy sectors.
• Ability to work effectively in a cross‑cultural environment with teams in Japan, Singapore and other global offices.
• Strong commercial acumen and basic financial modelling capability.
